Recoletos Taekwondo in Action Again

June 28, 2008 (SSC-R Manila) - The regular training of the taekwondo team of San Sebastian College Recoletos Manila is now underway. Many thanks to the untiring effort of Coach Jec and Coach Roger. The kids are really starting to make their mark in their chosen sport. Most of them are already in the higher belt rank of the sport. The players have proven their skills and won as many medals as they can in the different tournaments that they joined.

In the first San Sebastian Open held in the SSC-R grounds last February of this year, our son Randell collected gold and bronze medals in the sparring and poomsae events respectively. And in the recently concluded New Face of the Year tournament last May 3, 2008 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. We take pride to announce the following medalists:

1. Raven Rosie Luna - Silver Medal
2. Daniell Kendrick Africa - Silver Medal
3. David Dean Panotes - Bronze Medal

Another honor was given to the school when these jins collected their medals in their respective category in the All Womens Taekwondo Championship held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum last June 1, 2008. The medalists were as follows:

1. Raven Rosie Luna - Gold Medal
2. Ma. Beatriz Francesca Paguia - Bronze Medal

These are all because of the training efforts of Head Coach Jec Panotes, Asst. Coach Roger Arroyo and Rey Ngo. Under the training program, the kids undergo extensive individual and group trainings. They start of with a series of warm-ups, stretching and basics, and afterwards sparring training with their team mates. All these in preparation for the upcoming tournaments as we always want our team to excel and be prepared.

Let it Rain!

The rainy season is just around the corner. I remember our kids complaining about the rain everytime they go to school. Whenever we visit the mall, they always convince us to buy them a pair of boots, which we disagree with. The reason - the design is not that good, or the sizes available don't fit them. So 2 years had gone by, they just stopped convincing us and forgot about it, until last year.

One time, I saw my former officemate wearing this flashy pair of boots (this time I remember my 2 kids) when she came into the office one rainy evening. So I asked her in a jokingly manner - "What's the boots all about?". She just smiled back. Days passed by, and suddenly I got an email from her (actually she emailed all of us in the office), inviting us to visit her booth at Rockwell. I was able to tell about this to my wife and she exitedly told me that we check it out. And so we did.

At the Rockwell tent, I left them (my wife and kids) at Esel's booth to check out the bank. And when I returned, she told me about this funny event that took place when I was gone. Apparently while she was fitting and finding her size, our two kids - Randell and Princess - were also starting to choose their designs and started to fit as well. So in the ended up buying 3 pairs of new Plueys boots. They even started wearing it as we stroll inside the mall. The smile in their faces really reveals that they were happy and excited.

Yes, Plueys are for gals and kids alike!



Now they are ready for the rain this school year.

The Incredible is BACK

The start of being a jin

I could still recall Randell's first week with the San Sebastian Taekwondo team. He does not want to join the warm-ups and all. Understandable, he's new, that's why he was a bit shy.

But as the weeks pass by, he learned how to mingle with other kids. He started to become athletic as he can. He pushes himself to the limit everytime the coach says so.

Months after, came his first promotional stint held at the courts of Ateneo de Manila University. I can feel he's trembling and really nervous, and I don't blame him. Even I and my wife Laarni are nervous as well. This is his first - and the first always brings the chill. To cut the story short, he received his first color belt - the yellow belt. Yep, that's right - he is now a yellow belter jin (a taekwondo term as the call the athlete). Then he went on joining the first ever San Sebastian Taekwondo Open.

The mini-tournament went smoothly as planned. Many jins from around Metro Manila including those from Ateneo, and even as far as Cavite joined. Well, I am just proud to announce that my son got his first gold medal in sparring after a fierce fight with a jin from Lourdes. He also received a bronze medal in the individual poom-sae event.

This is a start of something big for him - I can see it. Now, my wife and I are planning to have this thing taken seriously. We even bought a complete training gear for him and got Coach Roger as his personal trainor. We want him to excel in this sport - and be the best that he can be.

Only God knows what'll happen in the future, but I know in my heart, this is what my son wants - and we'll support him all the way.
